Two Weeks In

A lot has happened in the last two weeks, it feels like I've been here much longer!

My trip to Jerusalem was lovely, although very busy! I played a few roles, from getting volunteers from the airport to the hotel, keeping an eye on some of the children in the group, helping people who had lost luggage buy more cloths, and tipping the bus driver on our way down here. I also got a little bit of time to see my friends from JUC, but hope to head back there at some point, to be able to roam on my own more, and spend more time with some friends there. However, as a staff member I got my own room at the Notre Dame Hotel...which was lots of fun! I even had a large balcony to enjoy!

The day we returned from Jerusalem we went straight to the dig for Seminar day, where several of the Staff members teach the volunteers about various equipment and methods for the excavation. I lead three sessions on the drone, but to be honest it was rather stressful! The crows were unhappy with the drone, and kept attacking it! Because of that, the volunteers didn't get to fly it much, and we didn't get to have it in the air hardly at all. Once the drone lost connection with the app, and that was also a bit crazy. Suffice to say, I was glad when the day was over! Honestly, I only know what I taught myself about the drone, so its hard to be confidant in teaching others. Time will tell.

Most of what we've found in my square is modern, dating to about the 1940s. The upside to this is it gives me a chance to practice overseeing excavation on material which is of less importance to our studies. It is definitely a learning curve for me to supervise others, and to know how to explain and motivate my volunteers to do what I want them to. It is even a challenge for me to know what I want them all to be doing! But I hope with time I will learn.
It has been so nice to have two days off. Yesterday I slept in, and took two, 2hr naps throughout the day, I was so exhausted! It was a much needed weekend before hitting the dig again tomorrow.
